Welcome!

Hi!  Welcome to my newest "blogsite"!  Instead of maintaing a separate website and blog, I have combined the best features from both into one easy to navigate "blogsite".  My recent work and the latest news is in the main body of the blog, while the "411" about sessions and weddings, galleries of my work, and a wealth of other information that you might find useful is in the other tabs located at the top.  Don't forget to check back often to see the latest!

If you have any questions or if you are ready to schedule, just call 281-645-6211.  I look forward to working with you!

New DVD Cases!

These new DVD Cases are da bomb!  I’m talking GORGEOUS!  They have a metallic sheen that is just unbelievable… and unfortunately that part doesn’t translate well to viewing on a computer monitor.  They really need to be touched and seen in person, so I’m going to start bringing them along to sessions.

Holly Anne Photography (Houston, Texas) Custom Digital DVD Case

These new cases will be included in the Ultimate Original Digital Collection, and will also available as an upgrade for any other digital purchase.

Keep watching for another sample, and for the new digital frames, coming very soon!

Cutie Patootie: Baby Rohan

Check out this cute little guy!  I’ve been shooting a lot of newborns lately, and I haven’t worked with a toddler for a while.  So, this little guy kept me on my toes!  He just turned one, but he was good on his feet, and I felt like I was in one of those comic strips that trace your steps all over the place.  But, it was so much fun!  I swear, if I photographed toddlers like him every day, I’m pretty sure I’d be model thin.  haha!   Anyhoo… these were the last shots before the traditional first haircut, and I can’t wait to see him without all his gorgeous hair.  I bet he looks a lot different, and more grown up.  (Sorry mom, it happens!)

Speaking of his mom, I should mention how creative she is!  When I arrived, she had a collection of coordinating frames layed out on the floor.  She had gone to a framer and had the staircase display designed… even before knowing what pictures she might want to use.  I think that was a great idea, especially for a staircase collection.  It looked great on the floor, without any photographs, so I can’t wait to see the finished product!  Maybe she’ll let me come back to take a snap of it to share here!

Without further ado, here’s Rohan!  (To see more, just click “thumbnails” below and to the left of the main image. If you don’t see a picture below this text, please refresh your browser.)

Happy Thanksgiving!

I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving holiday!

I also wanted to give a little shout out to a company that is in the holiday spirit!   I received an email explaining that Night Light Pediatric Urgent Care was going to be giving away a Thankgiving meal to a deserving family and they were requesting nominations.  Well, what a great idea!   I knew right away that I wanted to enter my neighbor.  She is a single mom, which is a tough job as is.  But, on top of that, her beautiful 12 year old daughter has cystic fibrosis, a terrible disease that effects the lungs.  This poor girl has already had numerous operations removing parts of her lungs, and they expect that she will be on the transplant list within the next year.  They are a truly lovely family, and I certainly wish I could do something to make life just a little easier for all of them.   Well, it turns out, they were one of the families selected, and I am so happy they will have a nice holiday!  The poor girl is in the hospital now (and has been there for 3 1/2 weeks), so I just hope she makes it home in time for a nice Thanksgiving dinner.  I wish I could do more for them.

Anyway, regardless of who was selected, I just think it was such a nice idea, and a great way to spread some holiday cheer.  So, I’d just like to mention them here.  Please check out Night Light Pediatric Urgent Care at:  http://www.nightlightpediatrics.com/  They are in Sugar Land and Cy Fair, so if you are in need of medical services for your kiddos, and it’s after hours, check them out.  It’s great to have this kind of service, because, really, when do kids get sick during regular office hours?  Isn’t it normally late at night or on weekends when you are worried sick but don’t think you need an emergency room?  Anyway, they are helping people in more ways than one, and I think that is really fantastic!  Way to go Night Light Pediatrics!

Beautiful Staircase Display

I had an in-home Lifestyle Session yesterday with a sweet family who just welcomed a new baby girl to the world!  I had done the newborn photographs of their baby boy last year, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this beautiful display when I arrived.

 holly_anne_photography_houston_wall_display_falbey

First of all, I commend them for having such a beautiful display up so soon.  Now… yes, it has been over a year, but so many times people have the best of intentions, but they get busy and it takes months (or yes, even years) before they hang their portraits.  Other times, they are plagued by indecision just because of the sheer number of choices out there (color of frame, color of mat, type of frame, size of frame, layout of frames, etc).   So, it really is impressive that each print was matted and framed and hung so beautifully… and on a curved wall along a staircase no less!

Second of all, I ♥love♥ the fact that they utilized all of their favorites from the session in a 5″x7″ size, in a wall display.  Now, most people love their portraits and most choose to go with quantity over size.  But, the problem is that so many times, small portraits  get put away in an album where they don’t get to be enjoyed every day, or they get framed and put around the house.  Of course, either option is fine.  But, I think this layout really showcases the impact you can get by putting a collection of small prints together.  The other thing that makes this particular layout work so well, is that it is along a staircase, so each print is close in distance (and at eye level) as someone walks up the stairs.  If this layout was put up high on a tall wall, it probably wouldn’t work so well because the prints would be tiny as viewed from a standing position in the room.  But, you could do a similar collection in a different layout if you have some wall space in a room or hallway, where the prints would be hung low enough to see.

Thirdly, I like that they went with a “gallery” look.  If you notice the mat, you’ll see that it is not even all the way around the print.  There is more mat on the bottom, than there is along the three other sides.  This is how many art galleries frame the works on display.  It isn’t the traditional look you see in homes, but I love it, and I think it works beautifully here.

Fourth, as much as I love gallery-wrapped canvases that don’t require frames, I think that when you have a growing family, that sometimes frames are the way to go, especially for a collection like this.  Why?  Well, you put in the effort once, and it’s done.  The mats and frames are done.  They are hung.  The display is perfect.  But, then as your family changes and grows, you can take some of the images out and replace them in the wall collection, and then you can put the prints you took out into a beautiful family album.  The wall collection stays perfect and it doesn’t require additional wall space, which is a concern for many of us.

Now if you’re looking to hire someone to do this for you, I’m sure he hires out.  Okay, I’m kidding.  Hopefully he gets a laugh out of that.  He’s a successful anesthesiologist, so I doubt he needs the work.  But search the internet for ideas, or be creative and come up with something new, and just put a little thought into it, and you can get fantastic results too!  Or, just let me know and you can browse my idea book at your next consultation or session.

Hope this gives you some ideas for your next session!  Or, if you’ve had a session and have a beautiful display showcased in your home, please email me to share it and schedule a time so I can photograph it to share here!

Meet Roxy

Newborns are sweet, beautiful, cuddly… and unpredictable.  So, while I was waiting for my real client (a newborn baby boy) to top off his belly, I took his older sibling, Roxy, downstairs for her own beautiful portrait.  You know… we can’t let the older siblings feel left out when a new baby arrives.  ;-)

Well, if you can imagine what someone named Roxy would be like… that is exactly how Roxy is.  She’s fun and silly and boisterous, and takes life by the horns… well… all that when she’s not taking a nap on the floor or getting belly rubs.  You know how it is.  Life is tough.  I mean… life is Ruff.  Yep, that’s it.  Life is RUFF.

Free Wedding Photography!

Free wedding photography?  Am I crazy?  Well maybe just a little.  But, times are tough, and I want to try to make your special day a little brighter.  So, yes… I am actually giving away a free wedding photography package.  That’s right… you pay zip, zilch, nada.  But, here are the rules…

1)  The happy couple MUST be getting married sometime in 2010, and you must include the date in the entry.  (Unfortunately, if I am already booked for that date, I won’t be able to consider your entry.  Sorry!)

2)  The happy couple must have a set date and a set location (and the location must be in Houston or a nearby suburb).

3)  The happy couple (or a really great friend or family member) must email me a story about why they should win.  The email should be sent to:  contests@hollyanne.com  (Yes, you CAN and should enter yourselves, or ask a friend to!)

4)  The email must include a recent photograph of the happy couple that can be posted on my website (for voting).

5)  I will choose my favorite three entries, and those will be posted on my website for viewing and voting.

6)  The winner will be announced on December 31, 2009

7)  No purchase is necessary.  No strings attached!  All I ask is that if you win, you “pay it forward” and make someone else’s day a little brighter.

8)  Winner will recieve up to 8 consecutive hours of photography coverage on their wedding day, an online gallery, a beautiful album with twenty-five prints, and a dvd with all the images from your wedding.

9)  Do not email your questions.  Please post your questions here in the comments section below.  That way everyone will have the opportunity to read the questions and answers in case they have the same question.

10)  Have fun and just share a little of yourselves with me!

What am I looking for?  Well, you tell me.  How did you fall in love?  How did the groom-to-be propose?  How did you know he/she was “the one”?  Just tell me about *your* special love story!  Be honest.  Be creative.  Be passionate.  I can’t wait to read your story!

I want to brighten your special day, but I also don’t want to ruin someone else’s.  So, if the happy couple already has a wedding photographer, I certainly don’t want to ruin that photographer’s week, so please don’t enter and then cancel on someone else if you win.  Please play nice.

If you don’t live in Houston and want to enter anyway, feel free, but please understand you will need to cover my travel costs (hotel, gas, flight, rental car, etc.)  Email for more info.

Baby “R”

Oh my gosh!  I ♥ babies!  Just look at this little cutie and you’ll see why!  Little Baby R is 2 months old today!  Normally babies really stretch out by the time they are this age, so I recommend getting them in at around 5-7 days old, when they are truly in that newborn stage.  But, this little sweetheart still curled up… once she was good and sleepy!

After spending all day with babies, my hubby gets to hear those 4 little words… you know… “I want another one.”

Bella Pianta {Alyson}

Bella Pianta = Beautiful Blushing Bride (in Italian)

This beautiful bride to be  told me she was camera shy.  Why?  I don’t know… she should have been a model.  Don’t you agree?

The wedding is going to take place in a small town north of Dallas this winter, but the bride (and her fiance) live in Houston.  Because it is going to be a winter wedding, she wanted to avoid lots of greenery and flowers, which don’t fit the winter wonderland theme.  So, some friends of hers told her about Hotel Icon (http://hotelicon.com/)  I had never heard of it, but it’s smack dab in the middle of downtown Houston, at 220 Main Street.  Well, we both fell in love with the images shown on the website, and neither of us saw it in person until the day of the bridal session.  WELL… let me just say… it did not disappoint.  You have to check it out the next time you need a “getaway” without getting away!

Bella Pianta {Cynthia}

Bella Pianta = Beautiful Blushing Bride (in Italian)

Cynthia is such a sweet bride, and so much fun!  I had such a great time doing her bridal portrait, and can not wait to photograph her wedding, both of which are at Centurion Palace:  http://www.centurionpalace.com/ in League City, Texas.

Okay, I know what you’re thinking.  “Yeah, yeah Holly, but how can you go wrong with a beautiful bride in a beautiful location?”  Believe me… I know!   {Let’s just hope Cynthia doesn’t come to her senses… or that she doesn’t read this.}

Seriously… the thing about a beautiful bride or a beautiful location (or both) is that is just makes me want to find a way to make it even better.  How can I change the perspective or play with the lighting to make a great shot a gorgeous shot.  So… that said… I’m planning to knock her socks off when she sees the photographs of her wedding.  That’s my plan.  Wait and see, and you can be the judge!
